Z File Watch is a Joomla security component designed to help website administrators detect newly created and recently modified files. It provides a clear overview of file changes, making it easier to identify unexpected activity, suspicious files or unauthorised modifications.
The component scans your website files and displays the results in an organised interface. You can review each detected file and decide whether to ignore it, move it to quarantine or delete it.

Review and manage detected files
When Z File Watch detects a new or modified file, you can review its location and available information before taking action.
Depending on the result, you can:
- leave the file unchanged;
- mark it as trusted and ignore it;
- move it to quarantine;
- delete it if you are certain it is unsafe.
Multiple files can also be selected and processed at the same time, making it easier to review larger numbers of changes after Joomla or extension updates.
Quarantine protection
Suspicious files can be moved to quarantine instead of being deleted immediately. This allows you to isolate a file and inspect the website before deciding whether to restore or permanently remove it.
Quarantine provides an additional level of safety and reduces the risk of accidentally deleting a legitimate website file.
Protected Files
Important files such as index.php and .htaccess can be added to the Protected Files list. You can also add other files that are particularly important for your website.
If someone attempts to delete or ignore a protected file, Z File Watch displays an additional warning and requires confirmation before continuing.
Automatic monitoring and email alerts
Z File Watch can perform scheduled checks and send email notifications when file changes are detected. Notification intervals can be configured according to the needs of the website.
This helps administrators notice unexpected changes without having to check the website manually every day.
An additional layer of Joomla security
